Bunbury Diocese is in the south-west of Western Australia.
Located 100 kms south of Perth it stretches from the city of Mandurah, to the city of Albany on the south coast, and inland to cover areas of the eastern wheatbelt of WA.
Our diocese is rich in its diversity of coastal cities and towns with wine growing, mixed farming, mining and tourism making up much of our industries, while two of our coastal cities have expansive port facilities. There is also many natural timber forests throughout the diocese.
To go with the diversity of our parishes and communities, we have a diversity of Mothers Union branches, with some still quite formal in structure and others using a very informal small group format for their gatherings. Most meet monthly, usually February – November, while a few meet together a couple of times a year for worship and fellowship.
MU by Zoom is a new initiative in the Diocese and allows members who are not able to attend their regular branch meetings to continue to meet together for worship, prayer, reflection, fellowship and sharing through the on-line world.
All of the branches across the diocese share a common bond of prayer, love and sharing, dedication and encouragement. Members meet in their churches, have guest speakers, enjoy outings and carry out projects within their parishes and wider communities.
Three main gatherings are held each year for members.
Lady Day is celebrated in both St Johns, Albany and in St Boniface Cathedral, Bunbury.
A diocesan Friendship Day is held in early July, usually in a smaller inland town, not necessarily one with an MU branch. This day has a different theme each year, but always has an interactive presentation/workshop for members and is an opportunity for members to share among themselves as well as engage in conversation with the diocesan executive members regarding MU matters.
Country Rally is combined with our AGM each year in October and is hosted by a different branch. A Eucharist, usually presided over by the Bishop, is followed by the AGM, a luncheon and a guest speaker. Recognition of years of service by members is made during the AGM
On a diocesan level, Mothers Union owns a caravan which is situated at the Anglican Campsite in Busselton.
Branches and the executive are able to sponsor families to have a week long holiday in the van, with assistance for food and fuel also sometimes provided.
